Funeral rites for Walter Franklin
Lewis 41 well-known Raleigh busi-
ness man who died suddenly early
Saturday morning were held yes-
terday afternoon at 3 o'clock at
his home 918 West Johnson street,
being conducted by Dr E McNeill
Poteat pastor of the Pullen Memo-
rial Baptist church assisted by tne
Rev. Theodore Partrick Jr rector
of the Church of the Good Shep-
herd Interment followed in Mont-
lawn Memorial Park.
Many friends of Mr Lewis gath-
ered at the home for the service,
including members of the Raleigh
Lions club and the American
Legion he having been closely iden-
tified with both organizations. The
flag-draped casket reposed in a
bower of floral tributes that came
from admirers in the city and
throughout the State.
Members of the choir of the
Church of the Good Shepherd sang
"My Faith Looks Up to Thee" and
"Ten Thousand Times Ten Thou-
sand" during the brief, but impres-
sive service while at the grave a
simple prayer and the benediction
preceded the interment
The Lions attended in a body and
acted as honorary pallbearers while
James R. Bynum, Forrest G Heatn,
H A Mooneyham, B. F. Brown, H.
K. Witherspoon and R G Deyton
were the active pallbearers.
Mr Lewis who was associated
with his brother Wade C Lewis, in
the Lewis Sporting Goods Company,
is survived by his widow a daugh-
ter his mother two sisters and four
brothers.
Among those from out-of-town at-
tending the funeral were: Mrs. M.
E. Lewis of Chadbourn: Mr. and
Mrs. A. D. Lewis and Miss Margaret
Lewis of Chadbourn; Mrs Leroy
Gore, of Whiteville; Mr. and Mrs.
A. W. Lewis and Miss Evelyn

Lewis of Chadbourn; Mr. and Mrs.
S. H. Parker of Wilmington: Mr.
and Mrs. C. G. Vanlandingham, of

of Whiteville; Mr. and Mrs. D. D.
Phillips, of Charlotte; Mr. and Mrs.
I. G. Strickland of Charlotte Mr.
and Mrs Dick Kinney, of Green-
