Nadine Madsen

SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Nadine (Krause) Madsen, 92, of South Sioux City, formerly of Winnebago, Neb., passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009, at a South Sioux City care center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Presbyterian Church in Walthill, Neb., with the Rev. Dean Ross officiating. Immediately following the service, there will be a lunch and fellowship with the family at the church. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Omaha Valley Cemetery, rural Homer, Neb. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Nadine was born April 9, 1916, in Winnebago, the oldest daughter of the late Henry and Hazel (Davidson) Krause. She attended country school for eight years. She went on to Winnebago High School, graduating in 1935. She attended Wayne State College and taught schools for seven years in Dakota and Thurston County, Neb. schools.

She married Alfred L. Madsen on Dec. 15, 1945. She worked a number of years as assistant librarian and in the lunch room at Winnebago Public School. After she retired, the couple spent most of their summers camping at Lobster Lake near Alexandria, Minn. Mr. Madsen passed away on May 9, 1995, in Sioux City.

She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include three sons, Mark Madsen and his wife Mary of Holman, Wis., Kenneth Madsen and his wife Wendy of Swanton, Vt., and Allen Madsen of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother and his wife, Rodney and Marilyn Krause of Winnebago; three sisters, Lois Fischer and Verna Jean "Pat" Morgan, both of Homer, Neb., and Lucille Kull of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Ellen Krause of Winnebago; five grandchildren, Bryan, Aliesha, Ben, Maria and Emma Madsen; three stepgrandchildren, Christi Culligan, Kayla Christensen and Sean Culligan; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; an infant son; and a brother, Everett Krause.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth, Mark and Benjamin Madsen, Carl Free, Lynn and David Krause
