• Avisnotits, 1962. Nashua Telegraph Nashua, New Hampshire Thursday December 20, 1962 Anguished Cries Heard From Groups Over New Tax Deduction Rules BOSTON (A1)-Greater Boston hotel and restaurant owners are raising cries of anguish over the government´s new rules on expense account tax deductions. They are aware that Internal Revenue Commissioner Mortimer Caplin has said: "I think expense account living is a thing of the past"
STAMP OUT The government has said it intends to stamp out what it considers illegitimate deductions for lavish expenditures. Because of many protests Caplin promised a hearing in Washington that the original rules will be modified. Here`s what some restaurant and hotel operators, as well as those who use expense accounts in the Boston area have to say about it.
Dan Nyboe manager of Sheraton Plaza Hotel, Boston "The hotel and restaurant business is New England´s third largest industry. I would not be surprised to see it slip in to a lower ranking with new tax regulations on expense accounts It is my strong personal opinion a lightening of the regulations will cause a loss of business in the hotel and restaurant fields which caler to the expense account class. I fell the man on an expense account will not spend as freely - at least he`ll think twice before he does." "She wrenched her back and Arm," he said. "and was almost in a state of collapse," "l've never seen such an uncontrolled reception," he complained. "The Burtons wanted to say hello to their fans, but under these conditions it was impossible." Hotel manager Daniel Nyboe, who ran interference for the couple to get them inside the hotel, described the experience as "the worst thing I've been through in my life." By the time they reached the elevator, Burton was in a rage and his wife near hysterics.
